ASAE is currently accepting applications for the December 2024 CAE Exam.  All applications must be completed by the September 27, 2024 application deadline.

What is the CAE?

The Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential is the marker of a committed association professional who has demonstrated the wide range of knowledge essential to managing an association in today’s challenging environment.

The CAE exam is offered twice a year, in May and December. Candidates may apply to take the exam when they have completed each of the eligibility requirements, including work experience and professional development criteria.

The CAE certification was introduced in 1960. The original essay exam was later replaced by a psychometrically valid multiple-choice exam. In 2003, the CAE exam underwent a major reorganization to align the concepts more closely with issues faced by association executives. The CAE program was accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies in 2010.
